There are mainly two different types of loans in Sweden, private loans and fast loans. Private loans offer the biggest loans, up to 600 000 kr, while fast loans offer up to 70 000 kr. Beside the amount you can loan, the are two big differences between these loans. Private loans usually have much higher requirements to get approved, but the rent is lower. Fast loans have rents that stretch up to around 40% yearly interest. It’s also common that lenders who offer fast loans, also charge the lender different fees.
To apply for a loan in Sweden, you do so by filling out the application form on the lenders website. It is only big banks that still offer applications at their offices, some of these banks are: SEB, Nordea, Swedbank, Danske Bank and Handelsbanken.
Requirements to get approved for a loan in Sweden
Each lender has their own requirements that you need to meet to be able to get approved for a loan. When a lender have tougher requirements than what is needed, it is usually the age limit and minimum income that is increased.

- You must be at least 18 years of age
- You can’t be in debt to Kronofogden
- You must be registered that you live in Sweden

Different types of loans
Most loans that are given out, are loans without security. Loans without security means that you won't risk losing your car or house, if you can’t repay the loan. However, if you for example take a loan with security, you are more likely to get the loan and get a lower interest rate.
Car loan
There are two types of car loans in sweden. The first type is a car loan without security. A car loan without security allows you to take a loan that is equivalent to the whole cost of the car. The second type is a car loan with security. A car loan with security allows you to loan between 80-90% of the total cost. The rest 10%, you will need to pay directly from your own pocket.
Renovation loan
To finance a renovation through a loan, there’s two options. The first option which is also the cheapest, is by extending the mortgage. By extending the mortgage, you will get the lowest possible rate. This financing method is only possible if your mortgage is lower than 85% of the total cost of the real estate.
Personal loan
Personal loan is the most common loan for consumption. Since the loan isn’t attached to a specific purchase you can use the loan for anything. Some typical uses of this loan is to:

Loan from Sweden, while abroad
Regardless if you are abroad because you are backpacking, visiting relatives or on vacation, you are able to apply for a loan. While abroad, you still have to meet the set requirements and one of them is that you must be a registered resident in Sweden.
